Precious 2009

Precious, originally known as Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire, is a 2009 drama film, adapted from the 1996 Sapphire novel Push about a teenaged girl living in Harlem. The film premiered in January 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for best drama, as well as a Special Jury Prize for supporting actress Mo’Nique. In February 2009, Tyler Perry announced that the film’s title had been changed to Precious, which was confirmed soon afterwards by Lionsgate Entertainment. The change was made to avoid confusion with the 2009 action film Push.

Plot: Precious stars newcomer Gabourey Sidibe as a teenager named Precious Jones, Mo’Nique as her mother, and Paula Patton as her teacher. Also appearing are Lenny Kravitz as a nurse and Mariah Carey as a social worker.
