Law & Order (Tv Series) 1990

Law & Order is an American police procedural and legal drama television series created by Dick Wolf. It has been broadcast on NBC since its debut on September 13, 1990. Set in New York City, the series follows the professional lives of several police officers and prosecutors who represent the public interest in the criminal justice system.

The success of the series has led to the creation of additional shows under the Law & Order franchise. The series is the longest-running primetime drama currently on American television.

Plot: In New York City, when a crime is committed, the victims are represented by two distinct yet forever intertwined forces. There’s the police department, represented here by the 27th precinct Homicide Detectives. Theres Senior Homicide Detective Cyrus Lupo and his partner, Junior Homicide Detective Kevin Bernard who both report to their boss Lieutenant Anita Van Buren. It is their job to investigate the crime, collect evidence, interview witnesses and then, when the evidence points to a suspect or suspects, place the suspect(s) under arrest. The matter is then taken over by the prosecutors of the Manhatten District Attorney’s office, Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter with support from his assistant prosecutor, Deputy Assistant District Attorney Connie Rubirosa, who work under the watchful eye of Manhatten District Attorney John “Jack” James McCoy, together they discuss deals, prepare the witnesses and evidence and conduct the people’s case in the trial. Both teams work with the Medical Examiners Office, Crime Lab and Police and District Attorney psychiatrists. Matters are rarely resolved easily, or for the people involved, satisfactorily. Crimes are committed which frequently create public unrest and controversy, race, morals and beliefs are frequently challenged and manipulated, the guilty can go unpunished and the innocent ruined forever. The detectives and prosecutors are weary, cynical, flawed, human and vulnerable. And yet they are somehow still dedicated to their jobs, to make the guilty answer for their crimes and gain some sense of justice for the victim and the victim’s family. These are their stories…
Cast and characters
Law & Order is noted for its revolving cast. None of the original six cast members is currently on the program, although Chris Noth, who played Detective Mike Logan, appeared on Law & Order: Criminal Intent from 2005-2008 & Dann Florek, who played Capt. Don Cragen, currently appears on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, both reprising their original characters. Five of the longest-serving cast members are Steven Hill as D.A. Adam Schiff (1990-2000), Jerry Orbach as Detective Lennie Briscoe (1992-2004), S. Epatha Merkerson as Lt. Anita Van Buren (1993-present), Sam Waterston as A.D.A./D.A. Martin took time off to film the movie Rent. Actors portraying psychologists on the show include J.K. Simmons as Dr. Emil Skoda (1997-2004) and Carolyn McCormick as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet (1991-2008). It is widely believed that Hill’s character, Adam Schiff, was based on real-life New York County District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau who still serves in the post, aged 89. Leslie Hendrix as Medical Examiner Elizabeth Rodgers (1991-present) is the only character from the second season to still appear on the show, though she is not a regular character.
