Ghajini 2008

Ghajini is a 2008 Bollywood film directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced under the Geetha Arts. It is a remake of the 2005 Tamil film of the same name, which was also by Murugadoss. Ghajini loosely emulates the Hollywood film Memento,

written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It stars Aamir Khan and Asin Thottumkal in the lead roles while Jiah Khan, Pradeep Rawat and Riyaz Khan essay supporting roles. Aamir khan spent a year at the gym, continuously training with his personal trainer for the role.

Plot: Sanjay Singhania (Aamir Khan) is a rich tycoon suffering from short term memory loss due to being hit by a metal pole when trying to intervene on his girlfriend’s murder. Because of the severe injury on his head, his memory can only last for fifteen minutes and he doesn’t remember events or incidents that have happened before in his life. He can now only live a comprehendible life by tattooing notes on himself and taking pictures of things with a Polaroid camera to remind himself of the incidents that have happened. His story in unraveled by a police officer (Riyaz Khan) who is hunting him due to several murders he has committed while trying to find his girlfriend’s murderer through his diary. His story has also piqued the interest of a medical college student, Chitra (Jiah Khan) who is searching for a patient with an “interesting” record for her college project. Chitra comes to know about Sanjay’s love with Kalpana (Asin Thottumkal) a model cum activist. When her activist work for children comes in the way of child racketeers, she is killed by Ghajini when she intervened with his plan of kidnapping 25 young girls to Goa. So, with the help of Chitra, Sanjay sets out on a revenge spree, searching for the murderer of the one love of his life..
Box office
Ghajini was released with around 1500 prints, of which 213 were released overseas. The movie had around 650 paid previews which fetched it around INR 70 million. The domestic distribution rights of Ghajini were sold for INR 530 million and home video rights, overseas rights and satellite rights for another 690 million. Ghajini had collected US$46 million worldwide by 18th January 2009. In an affidavit to Madras High Court on January 28, the producers stated that the collections for the first 23 days is INR 1 billion in addition to an overseas collection of $ 1.5 million.Ghajini has crossed the 2 billion Rs mark by january 25th 2009. Ghajini is Bollywood’s highest grossing movie of all time, it is also the first Bollywood film to gross 100 Crore domestically(115 crore approx.) and 200 Crore worlwide.Ghajini did a business of 220 crore worldwide at the end of its run.
