Cast
* Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) is a well-known author, who, after having just killed off his most famous character and being nagged by his publisher ex-wife, is pulled in by NYPD Detective Kate Beckett and discovers a new source of inspiration. Castle now has the opportunity to use his unique knowledge and skills to help solve murders, much to the irritation of Detective Beckett.
* Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) is a homicide detective with the NYPD. She is a first-class investigator who has gained a reputation as a detective who’s intrigued by the “freaky ones”, the sort of cases that do not fit neatly into a box. She joined the force after a murder of a loved one was never solved, and therefore can empathize with the victims. She is forced to work with Castle, but the two make a great team.
* Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) works in the homicide division with Ryan as part of Beckett’s team. He is always ready with a sardonic comment to keep Beckett on her toes and enjoys the way Castle riles her up. He and Ryan are incredibly tight with one another, even though he is constantly arguing about obscure facts with Ryan.
* Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) also works alongside Esposito as part of Beckett’s team. He is charming, quick on his feet, and is a wealth of obscure knowledge. He is always contributing a random fact or some strange piece of insight. He and Esposito regularly tease Beckett, but they are incredibly protective of her and ultimately treat her like one of the guys.
* Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones) is a medical examiner who has a friendly outlook. As a friend of Beckett’s, she is one of the few people with whom Beckett can let her guard down. She is also one of the only people who notices the personal connection between Beckett and Castle, and urges her to act on it.
* Roy Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson) is Beckett’s boss who appreciates Beckett’s determination and diligence but maintains a close watch to make sure the investigation goes smoothly. He is amused by how much Castle annoys Beckett, but also appreciates how effective the two are when they work together.
* Alexis Castle (Molly C. Quinn) is Castle’s fifteen-year-old daughter who gets along better with adults than with kids her own age. More interested in her physics textbook than makeup, Alexis never ceases to amaze Castle with her wisdom and insight and it is often difficult to distinguish which one is the parent and which one is the child.
* Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan), a former Broadway actress, is Castle’s mother and constantly seeks the spotlight with her large personality. She lives with Castle and her granddaughter Alexis, and feels it is her job to keep her son grounded, even though it is all done out of love.
